A UK/Eire prose submission schedule for early 2019

As more magazines introduce submission windows, and competitions increase their significance, it's worth planning ahead. I shall try to submit to these (mostly UK) competitions and submission windows -

  • Stinging Fly - Submission window closes on Jan 9th
  • Spelk - window opens in January: (100-500 words)
  • Cease Cows opens for Flash (max 1500 words) in Jan
  • Wigleaf - stories under a 1000 words. Submit during the last week in January - see http://wigleaf.com/about.htm
  • Cambridge Short Story Prize. Deadline 15th Jan. Word limit 2K-3K. Entry fee £8. 1st prize £1000.
  • HU (deadline 25th Jan)
  • Strix has a January Submission window
  • Losslit has a January Submission window
  • The scores (St Andrews) Submission window closes on 31st Jan
  • Flash Frontier - comedy, max 250 words. Deadline 31st Jan.

  • Lost Balloon 1000 words. (1st-7th)
  • Tales from the forest (1000 words) by Feb 17th
  • Interpreter's House - Submission window opens
  • Ambit - Submission window opens on 1st. Closes on 1st March (you pay to submit)

  • Popshot Theme - Escape (deadline 4th March). Short stories: 1,000 to 3,000 words. Flash fiction: 100 to 1,000 words
  • White Review Short Story Prize. 1st prize £2,500. Entry fee £15 (50 free entries for low-income writers). Deadline 4th March. 2,000 - 7,000 words.
  • National Flash Fiction anthology. Theme: Doors. Deadline 15th March.
