A UK/Eire prose submission schedule for early 2018

As more magazines introduce submission windows, and competitions increase their significance, it's worth planning ahead. I shall try to submit to these (mostly UK) competitions and submission windows -

• January
  • Cease Cows opens for Flash (max 1500 words) on 10th Jan
  • Wigleaf - stories under a 1000 words. Submit during the last week in January - see http://wigleaf.com/about.htm
  • Strix has a January Submission window
• February
  • Interpreter's House - Submission window opens
  • Popshot - Theme: Truth. Short stories: 1,000-3,000 words. Flash: 100-1,000 words. Deadline 26th Feb.
  • Exeter - Competition deadline 28th Feb. Max 3000 words. Fee £6, 1st prize £500. See http://www.exeterwriters.org.uk/p/competition.html
• March
  • Ambit - Submission window opens on 1st. Closes on 1st April
  • DNAmag - 500 words on Lies & Confessions. Deadline 5th March
  • National flash-fiction day competition. Free entry. 100 words. Deadline 17th March
  • Thresholds feature competition, for articles about short stories, 750-2000 words. Deadline 18th March. Free entry. 1st prize £500. See the rules

  • New Flash Fiction window opens
• May
  • Submissions for issue Three of Ellipsis (max 1000 words) 30 March – 4 May 2018
  • Spelk window opens sometime in May
  • Bristol Competition - deadline 1st May. Max 4000 words. Fee £8, 1st prize £1000. There's an anthology too. See http://www.bristolprize.co.uk/
